    Abstract

    IBM Rational Test Workbench

The modern enterprise deploys applications and multichannel webexperiences at a rapid cadence to reach new customers and businessopportunities. These applications are connected to corporate systemsthrough a wide variety of front-end technologies, middleware, andintegration platforms. As a part of the Rational Solution for TestAutomation suite, Rational Test Workbench helps your business movetesting to the cloud.

Docker images and Helm charts can be downloaded to enable the useof the test execution engines in Kubernetes-based clouds such as IBMCloud Private. You can scale your deployments more easily, takingadvantage of the benefits of parallel execution to increase the speedof deliveries, and using virtual services in discrete containers formore flexibility.

As the points of integration across the Rational Test Workbenchproduct set expand, IBM moves to a server-based framework forgathering statistical measurements about the environments in whichtests are executed.

    IBM Rational Performance Tester

Rational Performance Tester is the first of the Rational TestWorkbench suite of offerings to take advantage of a new capabilitythat ties test failures to specific environmental issues, such as lowmemory. This can give test teams greater insight into root cause ofissues and enable them to provide not just problem identification, butpotential solutions. A new statistics capture icon appears in theRational Test Control Panel application, enabling users to quicklybegin configuring and using this capability.

    IBM Rational Test Virtualization Server

Rational Test Virtualization Server introduces the capability tovirtualize IBM MQ on mainframe through transmission queues, enablingtesters (that are working on distributed code) to implement an MQserver on the distributed side and completely remove their reliance onthe mainframe. This streamlines processes to help organizations thatwork with mainframe environments to manage their MIPs moreefficiently.

    IBM Rational Functional Tester

For clients with mobile apps to test, Rational Functional Testernow includes enhanced integration with Perfecto Mobile to simplify theconstruction of test cases if users are not confident with Appium. Inaddition, the dependency on a third-party mobile app for testing webcontent on mobile is removed, enabling users to test their webapplications directly on Chrome, Safari, or on a mobile device.

    Description

IBM Rational Test Workbench V9.5 brings enhancementsacross the portfolio in the areas of version control, test data, andplatform support.

When testing or virtualizing APIs, testers often need to referencethe data that is used by the system under test. Version 9.5enhancements to its toolset adds support for querying and updatingNoSQL databases, starting with MongoDB.

Virtualization of databases is also enhanced by the capability topass queries through to the live database when a virtual databasecannot provide a response to a query. The virtual database can thenlearn any additional queries and tables, further enhancing thecapability to virtualize away parts of the system under test that arenot required for testing.

Just as developers manage their code in version control, testersalso need to manage their tests and virtual services in the same way. Therefore, all authoring tools in the Rational Test Workbench suiteare gaining built-in support for version control with Git. ForRational Functional Tester and Rational Performance Tester, gainingbuilt-in support for version control with Git involves bundling eGitas part of the team perspective. For Rational Integration Tester, newcontrols are provided within the test navigator for direct commit, push, and pull operations.

IBM Rational Performance Tester V9.5 and IBM RationalFunctional Tester V9.5 enhancements include redesigned test datacapabilities. Several highly requested features are added to thesecomponents, such as persistent cursor support, support for highvolumes of data, and the elimination of segmenting data by providingtrue shared data sets.

Users of open source solutions such as JMeter can now benefit fromthe rich reporting and analytics capabilities of Rational PerformanceTester. JMeter test cases can be run within Rational PerformanceTester. Users can apply all of the performance schedule capabilitiesto JMeter assets and get meaningful reports quickly and easily.

The modern enterprise deploys applications and multichannel webexperiences at a rapid cadence to reach new clients and businessopportunities.
