WARNING: This component does not work on Mac OSX systems.

Installation (HACS) - Highly Recommended

  1. Have HACS installed, this will allow you to easily update
  2. Add https://github.com/kevinvincent/ha-wyzesense as a custom repository as Type: Integration
  3. Click install under 'Wyze Sense Component', restart your instance.
  4. Plug in the WYZE Sense hub (the usb device) into an open port on your device.

Installation (Manual)

  1. Download this repository as a ZIP (green button, top right) and unzip the archive
  2. Copy /custom_components/wyzesense to your <config_dir>/custom_components/ directory
    • You will need to create the custom_components folder if it does not exist
    • On Hassio the final location will be /config/custom_components/wyzesense
    • On Hassbian the final location will be /home/homeassistant/.homeassistant/custom_components/wyzesense
  3. Plug in the WYZE Sense hub (the usb device) into an open port on your device.

Configuration

Add the following to your configuration file

The custom_component will use the contents of /sys/class/hidraw to determine which hidraw device is the Wyze receiver dongle and then use that info to initialize the dongle.

You can also optionally specify the hidraw device to use:

Most likely your device will be mounted to /dev/hidraw0. You can confirm the hidraw name of the device by running dmesg grep hidraw to find out what hidraw number the bridge grabbed.

By default, the component will restore the last state of the entity prior to a restart. If sensors change state during a restart, the change may not be reflected in HA. In order to combat this you can optionally specify an initial_state for sensors (by mac address) that will be set upon a restart. Be sure to put quotes around 'on' or 'off' so that they are strings not booleans.

Usage

Download
  • Restart HA and the sensors you have already bound to the hub (using the wyze app for example) will show up in your entities as off with assumed_state: true and no device_class. These will update and other attributes will be added once the component hears from the sensor for the first time.

  • Entities will show up as binary_sensor.wyzesense_<MAC> for example (binary_sensor.wyzesense_777A4656).

    • As like any other entity you can change the entity id and friendly name from the states page, which will stick even after restarts.
  • Call the services below to add and remove sensors from your WYZE sense hub.

  • Notes on Individual Sensors

    • Motion
      • State on: Motion Detected
      • State off: No Motion Detected
      • Wyze motion sensors will keep reporting the on state for 40 seconds after the last motion is detected. This is non configurable, but in practice it isn't a big deal and usually makes automations simpler.
    • Door
      • State on: Sensor open
      • State off: Sensor closed
      • Wyze door sensors will report off when the magnetized portion is within ~1 inch of the door sensor body.
  • Notes on selected Sensor Attributes:

    • rssi: This stands for received signal strength indicator. Higher values (closer to 0) mean a stronger signal.
    • battery_level: The sensor does a basic calculation with the battery voltage. Because of this, battery percentage may be higher than 100% when you first get a sensor. Enjoy the longer battery life :)

For all services a persistent notification will be sent for both successes and failures.

wyzesense.scan

  • Call this service and then within 30 seconds, insert a pin into the hole on the side of a sensor and push until the red led flashes three times. The sensor will now be bound and show up in your entities. You will have to call this service once at a time for each sensor you want to add.

wyzesense.remove

  • Removes a sensor. Make sure you call this service with the correct MAC address of the sensor (which is the string of numbers and possibly letters that looks like 777A4656). You can find this in the entity's attributes in the developer section.

Troubleshooting

  • Permission denied /dev/hidraw0
    • Additional Information
      • If you see this error on a Hassio installation please follow Reporting an Issue below. It is most likely an issue with your specific setup.
      • This is known to occur on Hassbian. This occurs when the group homeassistant is denied from accessing hidraw devices.
    • Solution
      • Create / Modify the file /etc/udev/rules.d/99-com.rules on your machine and insert KERNEL'hidraw*', SUBSYSTEM'hidraw', MODE='0664', GROUP='homeassistant'
      • Ensure the user running Home Assistant belongs to the homeassistant group
  • TimeoutError: _DoCommand
    • Ensure that you have updated to the latest component code. If you still see this error follow Reporting an Issue below.

Reporting an Issue

  1. Setup your logger to print debug messages for this component using:
  1. Restart HA
  2. Verify you're still having the issue
  3. File an issue in this Github Repository containing your HA log (Developer section > Info > Load Full Home Assistant Log)
    • You can paste your log file at pastebin https://pastebin.com/ and submit a link.
    • Please include details about your setup (Pi, NUC, etc, docker?, HASSOS?)
    • The log file can also be found at /<config_dir>/home-assistant.log

Standard Return Policy

We hope that you will be delighted by items purchased in the Wyze Store. However, if you need to return an item, we invite you to review the following terms related to returning a product.

Any undamaged product purchased from the Wyze Store can be returned to Wyze Labs within 30 days after the date of purchase, provided that you follow the return process outlined in the “How to Return an Item Purchased in the Wyze Store” section below. Once your return has been received and processed Wyze Labs will issue a refund based upon the original payment method. For items given or received as a gift, Wyze Labs is only able to issue a refund to the payment method used by the purchaser.

The refund will include the purchase price of the returned product and any associated sales tax. The shipping charge associated with the original purchase will not be refunded.

  • Only items that have been purchased directly from Wyze Labs through the Wyze Store can be returned to Wyze Labs. Items purchased through Wyze Labs’ authorized resellers and distributors must be returned in accordance with their respective returns and refunds policy.
  • You will need to provide your Wyze Store order number to initiate a return. For items received as a gift, you will need to provide the order number received by the purchaser. Wyze Labs is only able to issue a refund to the original payment method used by the purchaser.
  • Items must be returned with all included accessories and packaging. Please ensure that the item you're returning is repackaged with all the cords, adapters and documentation that were included when you received it.

How to Return an Item Purchased in the Wyze Store

  1. Start the process by submitting a ticket and selecting “Returns” as the support topic. Be sure to complete all fields in the ticket form, including the order number received from the Wyze Store at the time of purchase.
    • For purchases made through Wyze Labs’ authorized resellers and distributors, please refer to their respective return policies.
  2. Wyze Labs will send you an email with return instructions including a return merchandise authorization (RMA) number and a pre-paid return shipping label.
  3. Securely package the product you wish to return in the original packaging with all accessories and documentation. Please include a print-out of the RMA number in your package.
  4. Affix the pre-paid return shipping label to your package. If you do not want to use the return shipping label provided by Wyze Labs, you can also ship the returned package by the carrier of your choice. Remember to include your RMA number in the package.
  5. Mail the return package within 10 days after Wyze Labs has issued an RMA.
  6. We will inform you by email after the returned product(s) have been received and we have processed your refund to the account used to make the original purchase. Your refund will include the purchase price of the returned product and any associated sales tax. The shipping charge associated with your original purchase will not be refunded.

Please note that returns can be rejected if this process is not followed or if the product is not eligible for return.

Limited Warranty

All quality-related defects on products sold directly by Wyze Labs or authorized resellers are covered by a one-year limited warranty, beginning on the date of purchase. Defective products will be replaced with a new model, a refurbished model of equal value or, if both are unavailable, the model nearest to the original model's form, functionality, and performance. The replacement unit will be covered by a limited warranty for three months from the date of replacement or repair.

The following products are not covered by the Limited Warranty:

  • Products submitted beyond the original one-year limited warranty period
  • After the initial 30 days after purchase, any product issue that is not quality related
  • Products submitted without valid proof of purchase
  • Products that are physically located outside the United States
  • Products purchased from unauthorized resellers

  • Products received without charge in a Wyze Labs giveaway or donation, or as samples
  • Products on which repairs have been attempted
  • Products subjected to falls, extreme temperatures, water, or other operating conditions contrary to the Wyze Labs documentation

How to Initiate a Warranty Claim

  1. Start the process by submitting a ticket and selecting 'Tech Support' as the support topic.
  2. Describe in detail the quality-related issue that you are experiencing with your Wyze product, so that Wyze Labs is able to troubleshoot the issue with your unit.
    • Provide a valid proof of purchase.
      • If your purchase was made in the Wyze Store, a valid proof of purchase would be an order number or sales invoice.
      • If your purchase was made from an authorized reseller, a valid proof of purchase would be a dated sales receipt from the authorized reseller that includes a description of the product and the price.
  3. It may be necessary to return the product for quality testing. If so, Wyze Labs will provide you with a prepaid shipping label and return instructions.
