Magnet warning
What is the magnet warning?
The PICO 7 pump contains a magnet that can cause other medical devices in close proximity to fail, leading to serious harm including death. The PICO 7 pump must be positioned at least 4” (10cm) away from other medical devices that could be affected by magnetic interference. These include but are not limited to:
- Implantable Cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
- Pacemakers
- Insulin pumps
- Shunt Valves
- Neurostimulators
- Cochlear Implants
Why does the PICO 7 device have this magnet?
The magnet is integral to the new pump design that allows PICO 7 to move air more efficiently by using less power. The magnet enables the quiet operation of the device and by conserving energy helps facilitate a high tolerance to air leaks.4,5 Without the magnet, PICO 7 could not have the benefits listed below:
- Efficiency1
- Initial pump down
- Maintenance pump down (7 days)
- Dressing full indicator
- Quieter pump2
- 7 day timer
Can PICO 7 still be used by patients with any of these devices?
Smith And Nephew 660hd Service Manual
Yes – As long as the PICO 7 pump is positioned at least 4” (10cm) away from other medical devices, the PICO 7 device may be prescribed for use on patients with an active Implantable Medical Device (IMD) such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, shunt valve, neurostimulator, or cochlear implant. It is important the magnetism risk control measures, applicable to the device are clearly understood by users. Be sure that to consult the healthcare professional’s user manual prior to use.
