Premium Design

Like expected, the Fossil Gen 5 Calyle comes in a classic appearance with a design that defines a true premium smartwatch.

There isn’t any much difference in the design between the Gen 5 Calyle and Gen 4 Explorist, its almost same appearance except for the differences in size. The Gen 5’s 44mm case size is slightly bigger than both the Gen 4’s 43mm and 40mm for the Explorist and Venture respectively.

The Gen 5 is also slimmer which no doubt leaves it with a more attractive and charming appearance.

The Gen 5 comes in three versions; Smoke stainless steel and steel straps, black steel with dark brown leather straps and black stainless steel and strap. Each of these has straps that are interchangeable with 22mm straps. That’s just in case you don’t like the straps that come with the package.

AMOLED still powers the display on the Gen 5, and there are three buttons by the side which includes one rotating button. Although AMOLED display isn’t so easy to read outdoors, but it offers a more interactive and lively display.

Storage/Media

The Gen 5 Clayle has received a boost in storage capacity with 8GB that’s twice that of the Gen 4 explorist. This will allow you take more music and other files onboard. It also comes with a higher 1GB RAM that makes the Gen 5 perform faster than its predecessor.

This was noted on the Ticwatch Pro 4G – another outstanding Wear OS smartwatch which also has a 1GB RAM that significantly improved its performance even though being powered by the outdated Snapdragon 2100 chip. So, with Snapdragon 3100 powering this smartwatch and 1GB RAM, you should expect a faster Gen 5 Calyle.

Water Resistance Rating

The Gen 5 Clayle has same 3ATM water resistance rating as the Gen 4. This means the Gen 5 is water resistance up to 30 meters. So, you can safely wear this device under the rain, to the shower, or perhaps to the pool.

Impressive and Manageable Battery Life

The Gen 5 Calyle being powered by the Snapdragon 3100 chip features the battery life saver mode as seen on the Gen 4 Sport. However, the Gen 5 has four battery modes that significantly elongate its battery life.

Smartwatch

It has four battery modes which includes, time-only, daily, extended, and custom modes. The time-only mode is similar to that of the Gen 4 sport which will see this device last about a week or more. Although, with this mode activated, Wear OS features become inactive.

The extended battery saver mode will elongate the battery life of the Gen 5 without compromising notifications and heart arte tracking. While, the daily mode with all feature active will see the Gen 5 last just about a day or more.

The custom mode as the name implies allow you setup custom battery saver mode.

Activity/Fitness Tracking

The Gen 5 Calyle is also well equipped to track your active life. It comes with all the standard sensors which include accelerometer, GPS, gyroscope, and the improved heart rate sensor that makes the Gen 5 a smarter device that accurately tracks your heart rate so you get more insightful and accurate details to help you train at your pace.

Fossil Q Explorist Smartwatch Manual

With the Gen 5, you can track steps, sleep, distance, calories, as well as sport modes to help manage your training activities effortlessly. There’re also new apps like the Cardiogram that tracks your heart rate, including the much improved Google Fit.

It has inbuilt GPS which makes it a great choice for tracking your outdoor activities.

Notifications

The Gen 5 is equipped with Bluetooth v4.2 to keep you connected with all that matters to you. Its compatible with both Android and iOS devices which when successfully paired will keep you updated when there’s a new notification on your phone. You get to receive alerts when there’s a new email, call, and other notifications from both native and third-party apps.

The Gen 5 also has Wi-Fi which allows you access what matters to you anywhere there’s internet service.

NFC is also onboard which powers Google Pay – a contactless payment system that enables you make payment on the go from this device.
