The icon at the top of the screen showing a voicemail message has beenreceived is now permanently there even though I have cleared allvoicemail messages.

Does anyone know any shortcuts to make using predictive text messaging worthwhile. My two key problems are that it’s too slow to capitalise a proper name in mid-sentence; and that you have to select and confirm required word, then press # for a space. Also, predictive mode is neither the default option nor retained between text messages. All told, it just takes too long to write a text that looks vaguely coherent. Any shortcuts, settings or tips would be hugely appreciated.

You need to go to the main menu > tools > Call Filter > Settings > Enable Blacklist.
As a shortcut, press Menu, then pressing buttons 4 5 3 in sequence will select each of the required menu items in turn. Then select Enable Blacklist, and you should be good to go.

Menu > 4 5 3 > Enable Whitelist.
Now only numbers in your whitelist will be able to call you, so if you haven’t added any, then nobody will be able to call.

The up button just above the “OK” button should increase the volume a bit each time you press it.
That should make the incoming alert for calls and texts louder. If you need to hear the caller’s voice louder, you need to wait until you’re on a call before pressing this same “Volume Up” button.
FYI as with most button functions accessed from the home screen, you can change these functions - eg Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Keypad

There is a text icon at the top of the screen but I have no unread texts.

At the top left of the screen is the signal bar, then next to that is a speech bubble with three dots, I think this means that I have an unread text. I have checked my voice mail by pressing and holding down 1, I have no voice mails. I have cleared out all unwanted incoming texts, retaining a few taxts I wish ti keep and the speech icon is still there. How can I get it to go away, it is driving me mad!

Just found out!! Go to messages as if you were writing a message, before you enter a word, press star button, then click on 'en' and that changes it to predictive, tbh using predictive is not any faster to text as you have to confirm each word. :)

The security inbox is protected by its own password so those texts can’t be read by just anyone who picks up your phone.

Set alarm without knowing I had and now have it repeating every five minutes. Have silenced it by muting the phone but of course the phone itself cannot be used. Furious at such feeble 'information' sheet which just lists attributes instead of info.

Text the word “Number” to 150. Tested that it works on Orange and EE, and pretty sure it’s free.
If not, can you call a friend’s mobile and your number will appear there; or a friend’s landline number and either use 1471 from that landline to get last incoming call number or if they’ve got a handset with a display, it should show the incoming call number. In all these situations, make sure you only let it ring once or twice, and that they don’t answer the call, to make sure that you’re not charged for it.

If you just want to write the occasional number, hold down the relevant key for a while - it will change to the number on that key after holding it down for a second or two.
If you want to write a lot of numbers, press * button, and select “123”

You need to check your service centre number is correct - husband has had this phone less than one month and it has already messed up twice - a few extra numbers appeared after his service centre number!

In the bottom right corner, there is a part that if you pull takes the back cover off. Take the battery out and that's where your SIM is.

The standard code my Alcatel came with was 0000
In settings under security there is a possibility to 'modify phone password'
If you changed it and check the box 'privacy' and add everything in the list, you can't make a pocket dial anymore because you will need to enter your new code before you are allowed to your contacts or messages! Now you don't need to auto lock every 15 seconds. :)

Mine seems to have about 30 words of one syllable in it. it offers ridiculous options and if i want to write a new word it leaves the option there so i have to delete each letter before i can write the new word, then it doesnt retain the word. eg for pizza it offers sixwa, sixwc, and sixwb. for honest it offers goodst goodsu and goodsv. the battery lasts one day, the sound is horrible, it actually hurts my ears, theres no choice of ring tones, the alarm doesnt wake me up, the 2 games are only samples that you have to pay for. but the worst thing is the predictive text which is only capable of predicting about 100 words of one sylable or less and when you add a word it doesnt retain it.

Go to text as though you are going to write and press the star button ,gives you choice of characters to use.choice of 'en ' will give you what you want.

You should be able to power off from the idle or menu screens by pressing the red key and holding it down for a few seconds.
This is a rubbish phone, just got it because of cheap payg deal but the ringtones are truly horrible, can't find predictive text and I see on this thread someone says the predictive options are useless anyway; fiddly even to get a full stop or capital letter! Think I'll go back to my old cracked-screen Nokia.

Hi, it depends which network you are on.
On O2, key *#10# then press the call button.
On Vodafone, dial *#1345#.
On other networks there are free numbers you can call or text to check your balance.

You can blacklist the phone number. There should be one in the drop down list when highlight the number and and press on the left - button. Otherwise it is somewhere in the menu. I do not use the phone anymore but I am stuck with it as Talktalk got me into this contract and can't get me out of it. I cannot understand the other person on the phone. It keeps interrupting the conversation. I bought Nokia 2610 which is an older but better phone. It has call barring and a loadspeaker. Somehow it does not recognize my Wifi in my room but I just want it for messages and phone calls. I had no problem with it. I did not expect more than a simple handset.
